I went with friends to the bar on Saturday and I was a little perplexed to see a lot of dark complexions on the dance floor. Inco, which has been the backbone of Sudbury is trying to keep the mine up and running during the strike by having temporary workers from Brazil flown in. Well I guess they were celebrating there first paycheck because they were everywhere at the bar. Rumour has it that they have to helicopter these workers in to avoid violence on the picket lines.
Inco which was bought by a Brazilian company went on strike as a result of the company downgrading pension plans and salaries. One good point brought up in this article is that the mine(s) are in the hands of a Brazilian company and name now, however this is Canada and you cannot treat or run your company like a third world country.
The mining industry here is the livelihood of this city and unfortunately what Sudbury’s foundation was built on is being striped away, first laying off workers, slicing salaries, pension plans, and changing the company name. No, I’m not from a mining family, or the daughter of a miner, but it affects everyone. I’m a student, going into my third year of university away from home and cannot find a summer job.
The strike has been 11 months now, and a year coming up shortly. It is about time the workers who have put their blood, sweat, time, lives into the mining industry get what they rightfully deserve and their families that stand behind them. Sadly the Ontario Labour Board has not stepped in as much as they should be to properly address this pressing issue that has come full circle and really affected the entire city of Sudbury. Northern Ontario is very different from Southern Ontario and Queen’s Park needs to realize how big Ontario is and stop forgetting about the North and the fact it is inhabited and what is at stake.
This article from the Toronto Star is well put.

So everyone thinks hippos are now suddenly cute because Telus has them in a commercial. Okay the babies are cute, like any baby (most of the time) yet there is somethin very disturbing about this animal you should know.
They are territorial and will even eat other hippo babies that are not their own so their young will thrive. Just like lions killing cheetah babies. I’ve re-thought my love for The Lion King too…
Yes, I haven’t posted in a week - but I really have been busy, really and for truly. I went to Toronto for the weekend and got to spend quality time with my rents and my bestest gal pal Tania. We went out to my favourite bar in T.O. The Madison. It’s really chill there and I love the atmospehere. We all had a great time as per usual. I also found the time to paint my room at the apartment. Not too sure if I’m a fan of the colour right now. Maybe it just needs some time to wear on me, we’ll see… At least it has a base coat regardless, right? Before it was a really bright aqua blue topped off with a horrendous sea shell border that belongs in some mermaid’s bathroom. Do mermairds go to the bathroom?
I finished an online Icelandic exam I had to get done prior to my trip too. One more thing off the to do list. Speaking of which it is only eight days till I leave for Iceland. Sooooo close - I cannot wait.

Jesse James just said in an interview recently that the reason he cheated was can be linked to the fact he was abused as a child. Maybe I shouldn’t talk since I cannot speak from experience of being beaten as a kid or something horrendous - but really? Jesse you’re still the little boy you haven’t let go cheating on a lady like Sandra. I just don’t understand. You’re either with someone or you’re not.
I was watching the local news and someone was held up outside the bank my family goes too. I live in a small community outside of Sudbury, and robberies are seldom. Especially during the middle of the day when there are many people around, the parking lot is always hustling and bustling with people. Apparently the lady heading into the bank to make a deposit was held up with bear mase for hundreds of dollars. Bizzare.

SEX AND THE CITY 2 THIS WEEKEND!!!
I can’t wait to see the shoes, the boys, and a new twist - the travelling!

Is there something wrong with this picture?
Bryan Adams came to 24 Sussex Drive to play with Stephen Harper.
Is Harper that cool?

I was over at my friend Tania’s house last week prior to going out that night - and she got her hands on the limited edition VIVA GLAM CYNDI LAUPER AND LADY GAGA LIPSTICKS FROM M-A-C. The Cyndi one is such a goregous colour! It’s a shiny, red, but apricot-like at the same time. Best part is the whooping 16 bucks for this lipstick goes to HIV/AIDS chairties. That part makes me feel better about buying expensive makeup.
So I went to order it online - SOLD OUT.
